finished 'The Goal'

last week i finished this wonderful novel where the reconteur ellaborates the life of a plant manager , considering his professional and personal life (both in a mess), and how he manages to turnaround the face of his plant doing full justice to the personal needs of his family members. It kindles a thought to prioritize your life, agreed work, in todays fast pacing competition, is demanding, but we need to maintain a balance .I mean if you stay late one day in the office , try and compensate that by atleast going out with your family. Only when there is peace on all fronts of your life , will you be able to sustain and further excel in your professional life.
Besides 'The Goal' makes you think on those simple ,direct but sometime illusive methods of doing work

For some last few weeks , I myself am staying late in the office . There is a thought that sometime i feel that IT employees are exploited. These are well paid jobs, but there no denial to the fact that people start suffering from diseases in their young age. We see many of our peers staying late in the office and highly disturbing that they are praised my the managers for working late. What they don't realizis that besides putting themselves in danger, they unnecessarily put pressure on other employees to stay late , at times even when that is not required . In such situations when such employees become managers then they by default assume or expect everybody to stay late.
One genuine reason can be that project is actually demanding, then also why is the planning of that project not questioned. It is conspicuous that somewhere the time and resources required mismatches. The reason for such mismatches is perhaps our (indians) sticking to low end or mostly outsourced services. There is a need to shift from low cost jobs to high end , high quality products, and also to change our mentality TO WORK LATE

India hitting the century

Last day of the 3rd test match between india and england , and india did a marvellous job making 100 runs all out. our greatest players supposedly recognised as world's greatest batsmen...rahul dravid, sachin tendulkar and other deities of the sports world went away with a sublimity..........whole indian team supposed to have best batting line up and all wickets down for 100.......isn't that brings us an awe

I propose a solution which perhaps might sound a bit uncompromising but can prove effective to straigthen up the visible laxation in some of the senior successful players. The reason for such slack attitude towards the game , the passion for which is garguntuan in the whole nation, is the endorsements given by the advertisements , the immense limelight they get in media and a bit of politics that gives them preference over a relatively better plyer but less connections. My idea to restrain every player from earning through any source other than the match fee after say 3 years in the team, just like the MP's are not allowed to hold any profit making position ( incidently this is also in the news over the forced resignation of jaya bachchan....where sonia gandhi is getting spiralled in her own web) . Taking the idea further they may be allowed to get into advertisements after the prescribed ban (say of 2 years) only after considering their performance in the last 5 years and the moment the slide their endorsements should be cut. I agree that this is not a solution which is permanent , but atleast this would bring a sense of insecurity among the players , and this very sense can push them to expand their boundaries.

today reading my payslip for the financial year 2005-06 , calculating the taxable income , realized that i could have saved 2,500 more from going into the govt kitty . I have started investing in stocks these days and there is one learning from the experience that everything there is speculative , especially in the bull run these days when market is overvalued (according to various economists whose studies reveal that today our GDP stands at par with that of US 70 years ago whereas our market sensex comparable to that of them just 15 years ago) .
*TIP*: get hold of ranbaxy and ivrcl ....market is bullish on these two ( wondering how am i able to predict the trends well....remember speculations....so these tips can go wrong)

i read a news 2 days back that there is a man who survived for over 400 days without food , under the US doctors , just on sun rays and declares that its rays have sufficient nutrition required for the body.....i was thinking if that is possible then the discovery can stop the world to a standstill . The sole aim a human works for is to nourish himself and if that can happen without any labour then who wants to work.

I completed 'maverick, by ricardo semler after 2 months . There is so much to do ....and i read in it that we must try and set 10 to 20 goals every year and try to achieve them. I am still trying to built mine but anyways i won't be listing them here. Just want to tell everybody to try n folloe the practice

gibbs is a divastator

i watched the repeat telecast of the recent one day between australia and south africa, south africa required 435 to win , gibbs scored 175, wow they broke the record of most number of sixes in a match , highest score ever chased and won. this match surely set the new limits , setting new records but they too would be broken one day. i heard that fans are requesting to launch the dvd's for this match to the cricket boards of both the teams .

chatting with old friends , pampering myself with 12 hrs sleep this weekend, you never know when ur saturday would be spoiled by managers one skew look and i will be called to the office. i think there is lack of efficient utilisation of resources everywhere. sometimes they give an impression that they just want our presence even if there is no contribution in the work. I feel instead they should relieve those who doesn't have any work that day. this way both the sides would be much happier. But i guess i am talking in favour of my side got to see their perspective , one reason can be that one cannot predict the needs of an employee , so they insist everybody's presence. still things can be smoother if there is more involvement.
We often have this perception that managers are good for nothing , they just sit around , surf the ent , give orders and go home. But realizing the responsibilities of the whole project and all the planning that goes in a project, no doubt there has to be right person up there to make the venture successful.

world of stealth

worlds first unintentional (perhaps) radio wave absorbing fighter plane Horten Ho 229,built in 1930's by germany which had plywood outerskin making it possible to remain invisible on radars. though their range as in radius was miniscule, with maximum flying speed about 900 km/hr. there were little developement in the stealth till 50's , then with the cold war beginning to cover the world affairs , US came with magnum opus including SR-71 Blackbird,B-2 bomber which gave them liberty or a kind of fundamental right to hover above anybody's territory with being detected. these stealth planes actually satiate humans need to become invisible , espial from all detections. Try and recall the movie Mr India where the protaganist enjoys the invisibility. Latest on the repertoire (i had to look into the dictionary for its spelling) is AURORA , still not declared officially , but observes around the famous area-51 in nevada desert in US witnessing the presence of the supremo of the fighter world which can fly upto 6 Machs that is around 7500 km/hr ( that fills me with awe , a kind of amazement for the technology) , which is literally unfathomable in the sky by any present radar technology, and with that speed any existing missile can't dream to catch it.

Can continue on stealths, but need to go to the lab . These days a pretty hactic and would continue to be so for atleast another month. My working hrs are daily extending by an hour , what would happen after the assigned quota of 24 hrs would finish....

carrot , egg or coffee beans

This is a wonderful , inspiring thought i came across and wish to share with everybody.

One day a man who was exhausted from his life, tired fighting his fate as he had faced much hardships and life had never given him respite. He complained to his mother , for the tough situations he was going through. Mother didn't replied to him immediately and took him to the kitchen. she put 3 pots on the flame and started boiling, egg and coffee beans into those pots. after about 15 minutes she asked the man to taste all the three and what does he observe. In his mental anguish he couldn't make anything out it. Then mother tried explaining him that there are 3 kinds of person in this world, 1st kind like carrot who seems to be hard from outside but in testing time give up their hardness and become soft and weak,2nd kind like egg who are real soft, tender and fragile but in boiling water(hardship) become hard, tough and strong willed. 3rd kind are like coffee beans who turns the dark, tough circumstances into their favour just like coffee beans which imparts the aroma and flavour to the boiling water. These are the people who adjusts their rudder with the direction of the wind , faces the hell and blooms heaven out it.

Happy HOLI in advance . may the colours of holi wash away all our griefs and pains , we get to realize the true meaning of our lives and can try and lead a balance life .

dropped the idea ....because of the responses received

what do you want....you really expect me to strain myself after whole day of working.......and i answer to myself "yes that how you learn to manage time,to mange yourself"

In last few days i have learnt one thing...that there is so much i still need to learn. On one hand there is sabu...arey apna sabeer bhatia(hehe) , who has launched another state of the art service after the famous HOTMAIL, its by the name VOIFI which provides net telephoning to its user to call in india from any part of the world for just Rs 1, now thats a revolution (atleast for all my friends who are studying abroad). where was i... ya on one hand sabeer , on the other hand me who really strives to do something but usually that fire dies down in just a few days...but ya it rekindles after some days.

I am reading an autobiography of richardo semler by the name 'maverick' , and i am thrilled, astonished , ........i treat myself as that loutish person who assumes that the whole world is revolving around him ,when he himself is rotating.....isn't it surprising that for hundreds of years all the great scholars used to think the same way for the earth (that universe revoloves around it. ya digressing from the topic...ya ricardo brought the industrial democracy which shook the who corporate world and we do see its repurcussions that of sharing his bright ...indeed maverick ideas ( like sharing profits and responsiblities with the workers)
I have also started 'anthem' by ayn rand ...and with that i am going to finish all the fictions by her.

after a long gestation

Let me tell you about my peregrination to the LALA land , an alien inhabitant world , where they expect you to know all the gyaan .......finance,economics,general,sports,current affairs,CONTROL ENGG(hehe this is intentionally highlighted).

i came across many fish markets where i fought my way to the LALA land, there were abstracts like one i would remember all my life ' buttons are on the right side of the shirt'........then there were unneccesary investigations of several social, personal phenomenons which mostly used to enrage one of the travellers, and used to fire some hostilities among some vulnerables who use to miss the opportunity to use their vanni. It is this this vanni which can built empires , and ofcourse can annihilate them. I feel we are all born with it, and the degree of efficiency varies. Hitler had it , gandhi had it, i wish even i had it,

then there were encounters with the people charge us to pretend as the aliens we all are fearing to meet, the act as substitutes for them give us practice sessions and made us bear the pain, pessimism, inferiority complex again and again in the hope of pressurizing us to resolve our problems , but we obstinate creaturesnever lose our identity and bore up that contempt and attacks on our self esteem. But i hold no grudges for them.

Will continue with that in the next post
